There has been a lot of moaning recently, on author forums and communities, about free ebooks killing the self publishing market.
With so many free books why would anyone need to buy one!
Is this the case though?
It got me thinking, because luckily (or maybe not luck) my sales aren't down - infact they're up for the beginning of May - so what do readers think of a book if they see it's up for free?
That the writer can't sell the story so is giving it away, or 'Oh goody another freebie that looks like my sort of read,' or does it being 'free' make no difference to your opinion of the book.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Getting on with it...

I'm meant to be getting on with the next teen book in my trilogy, but another picture book story popped into my mind the other night!
It was one of those stories that was just written in an evening and has had very little tidying up to do. Some stories I have to mull over for weeks, so I love it when this happens! Do you get this happen much and does it make a better story when it does?

I'm now doing the illustrations and hopefully it'll be on soon. Watch this space!

Also, I've worked out how to put pages on this blog, so I've been able to put a bit about my children's ebooks on here.

I was talking to someone the other day and the conversation came on to "What do you do?"
After I said I'm an artist, illustrator and author, she mentioned her husband is an author and illustrator too. 'Great!' I thought. Then she qualified the statement with, "he's not got anything published though."

So that got me thinking. Do I see myself as an author?

If someone asks you what you do, do you say, "I'm a author," or do you reply with whatever 'job' you have? More and more I started to think of myself as a writer, especially after I had ebooks published, more so when people started buying them!

As an exampe, if a lady earns money teaching, she is a teacher. She may be a good teacher or she may be a rubbish teacher, but she is a teacher. She may not take it seriously and therefore make much money at it, but she is still a teacher.

If you write books, publish books and sell books, - ebooks included - then you have the right to call yourself an author, but what if you are unpublished and have no sales?

Is there more to being an author?
Are you an author?
